Ben from lucidscreening
I would think LucidScreening would be exiling my ass for bitching about one of its users.
Btw, "anonymous" is Austintation_Ben.
Haha, nope. We butt heads even amongst ourselves because our tastes all vary so much. Keep the comments coming :)
Good. I don't feel so bad, afterall. No blog, huh?
Wow, I'm overwhelmed at the sheer excellence of your list, man. Seriously, I'm beyond impressed.

Hot list, man. I definitely need to see more Leone.
Really quite impressive. Love Streams is truly astounding, the best Cassavetes that I've seen so far. Zerkalo is great, and I really need to get around to seeing Nostalghia. I saw Hiroshima Mon Amour a while back thanks to you, and really adored that one - Je T'aime, Je T'aime looks rather fascinating, and I'm hoping that I'll be able to see it eventually. LIT is most likely the most therapeutic film that I've seen...it always succeeds in leaving me at peace. I hate Miami Vice and find Goodfellas to be highly overrated. Vertigo improves drastically over re-watches for me, and it's definitely giving me a headache over choosing a favorite Hitchcock. You already know my thoughts on those Lynch films - I'm really pleased to see them ranked so highly, and it's quite cool that we have the same two favorites. I need to get around to seeing some more Bergman, but as of yet, no film has even come remotely close to the brilliance of Persona. Woman in the Dunes would make my top five, standing as one of the defining film experiences of my life. Sunset Blvd. is one of my favorites of the "classics". Although a beautiful film, Hana-bi failed to impress me with its content. Nights of Cabiria has been on my to see list for a while, so I'll probably get around to viewing that one shortly. I was a huge fan of Shock Corridor, so White Dog sounds incredibly interesting. Overall, one of the most personal and reflective lists that I've seen. Great stuff.
Nostalghia - 6/10.
Lost in Translation - 10/10.
Miami Vice - 7/10.
Goodfellas - 9/10.
Vertigo - 10/10.
Eraserhead - 1/10.
Persona - 6/10.
Inland Empire - 5/10.
Sunset Boulevard - 9/10.
Nights of Cabiria - 9/10.
I've seen half of them, and even though our tastes sometimes differ like night and day, I can certainly respect your list. Two 10s, three 9s - which means I at least really like half of what I've seen.
A few reasons why I disliked the others:
Nostalghia (seen it once) - I am one of Tarkovsky's biggest detractors. Solaris is the only one I liked of the 5 I've seen.
Eraserhead (seen it 3 times) - possibly my least favourite film of all-time. I find everything about it grotesque, messy, pretentious (even tho I hate that word) and ultimately THE cinematic waste of time of my life.
Persona (seen it 3 times) - I <3 Bergman, but this one didn't do it for me.
Inland Empire (seen it once) - It seems to me like Lynch is up to his same old tricks - crafting a series of randomly shot sequences and passing it off as a cohesive whole. No thanks.
Despite my reservations, I must say the list "looks" nice ... in that there's half of 'em I haven't seen, and a few I haven't heard of. I may check out some of them, possibly more readily if you'd recommend any to me.
Cheers
